(More customer reviews)After getting some property logged, it seemed to be a waste to cut up the treetops that were left just for firewood. Now, instead of firewood, I have some boards that I can use for other projects. The logging company left everything over 12 inches in diameter, which might be a bit inefficient for cutting into boards, but a nice straight log is better as a board than firewood.
Using the Granberg ripping chain, I was able to cut quickly and smoothly. The results were much better than I expected. I used a Stihl MS 361 saw with a 20" bar, which might be a bit overkill. By using gentle pressure, I was able to get some smooth finishes on the boards, although running through a planer will probably be necessary for most projects. The Granberg slabbing rails are next on my "to get" list. I made a temporary set out of some scrap lumber, but it did not work all that well. I would not recommend using this without also getting the ripping chain.
