(More customer reviews)Beautiful tool!
Too bad that Jacobs is owned by Danaher, because these items are no longer produced. Amazon bought the full final inventory from Jacobs while parent Danaher is ruining the company and destroyinbg USA jobs by moving what remains of Jacobs to China.
Too bad Amazon's pricing policy is so weird. I bought this item for $8, and now it's still about $8 if you want it. BUT EVERY OTHER SIZE IS PRICED AT ABOUT $40 BECAUSE SOMEBODY BOUGHT ONE AND THE AMAZON COMPUTER DECIDED IT WAS "POPULAR" SO IT RAISED THE PRICE!!!
They do this with every Jacobs item.
Amazon started with approx. 4 units of each tool and if they don't sell, prices continue to decrease until they do sell.
In fact, over 200 of the 1200 Jacobs products Amazon sells are priced at more than 70% off, some over 80% off.
But as soon as one item sells, the price bumps up a few dollars.
And when 2 of 4 items in inventory sell, the price goes WAY up.
If just one is left, it's basically back at full retail.
You'll find sets of collets where it's cheaper to buy a set of 25 pieces than one of just 12 pieces because of this pricing policy.
And many Jacobs items are priced wrong by a factor of 10. Some Rubber-Flex collets that should be $70 full retail and $10 or so at markdown are priced at $100 with retail of $700. Somebody moved a decimal point and Amazon won't fix it even though I called then and wrote them many times.
So, do take a look at these Jacobs items, because they are beautiful, quality tools as good as anything from Command or Lyndex or Technics, and many are still at good prices. (look for 80% off...that's about as good as it gets).
And do feel bad for a great brand that's being destroyed by their parent company, Danaher in a quest for even more profit by moving jobs to China.
By the way, Danaher also owns "Allen", "Gear Wrench", "K-D Tools", "Matco", "Tektronics", "Fluke", "Armstrong" and many more companies that used to be the best in the world, but now are hollow shells of what they used to be because the name is the same but the guts are no longer made of your friends and neighbors proudly manufacturing the best, but Chinese slave labor from the lowest bidding factory in Shanghai selling the minimum quality they can get away with.
These remaining Jacobs tools are from USA and some are from Taiwan, but they are genuinely good. They are the last of the line and they won't be available in the future. Even warranty replacement is unlikely if you ever need it because "there ain't no more". Buy it while you can. And write the guys at Danaher to tell them to stop cutting the balls off American industry!
